Couples Counselling

Navigating relationship challenges can be difficult, especially during uncertain times, or periods of harship when instability can begin to overwhelm couples. Every couple encounters tough spots and ongoing conflicts, and it’s natural to feel overwhelmed or stuck. We understand that relationships require effort, patience, and communication. This is when an external perspective can provide the clarity needed to move forward.

With couples counselling, you’ll gain fresh insights into your relationship dynamics and develop a deeper understanding of each other’s perspectives. You’ll learn how to perceive and interpret messages from your partner in a new light, helping to break unhelpful interactional cycles that may have developed over time.

We provide practical strategies to improve communication, strengthen emotional connections, and foster mutual respect. These tools can bring immediate improvements to your relationship’s atmosphere, creating a space where both partners feel heard, valued, and understood. With increased clarity and deeper insight, couples can rebuild trust, enhance their connection, and find renewed hope for positive future.

We offer 3 well-researched therapy approaches that can immediately improve the atmosphere in your relationship by fostering clarity, understanding, and real homework that
will assist real change.
The Gottman Institute
A research-based approach to couples therapy that aims to improve relationships by addressing not only the communication patterns, but also helping couples discover their conflict style and how this contributes to the interactional cycle.
Emotion Focused Therapy
Emotionally Focused Therapy is for couples who want to explore the root causes of their relationship patterns. If both partners are willing to be honest and put in the work, this therapy can be invaluable in building a partnership based on mutual respect, trust, and solid communication. Emotionally Focused Therapy has proven to have the highest success rate of any couples method.
IMAGO Therapy
This is a model that is based on the idea that our early relationships frame our personalities and attachment styles. How we were treated by primary carers in childhood, has shaped how we act and react to ‘giving love’. And how we perceive ‘receiving love’. This model introduces an emotionally safe way to address conflict. It is called the IMAGO Dialogue, which Lorraine refers to as The Safe and Respectful Dialogue. This can be practised in the therapy room so couples can have a success memory to take home with them.
Lorraine also uses a variety ‘take home’ easy to do behavioural experiments and Cue Phrases which are relevant and meaningful to each couple and developed with the assistance of Lorraine and within the therapy room.
Using the above approaches, couples will learn new ways of perceiving and interpreting messages from their partner, making sense of the interactional cycles that have developed over time and build emotional security that will take them years down the road together.
Individual Counselling
Individual counselling provides a safe and confidential space to explore personal challenges, gain clarity on your situation, and develop a deeper understanding of your thoughts, emotions, and behaviours.
Through one-on-one sessions with a trained professional, you can identify underlying issues, recognise patterns, and work towards meaningful change.

Counselling offers an opportunity to brainstorm strategies tailored to your unique circumstances, helping you navigate life’s complexities with confidence. Whether you're facing stress, anxiety, relationship difficulties, workplace challenges, or personal growth hurdles, the right guidance can empower you to take practical steps towards improvement.

Additionally, you’ll learn valuable skills to enhance your ability to cope with difficulties, build healthier relationships, and improve communication in both social and professional settings. From emotional regulation and conflict resolution to boundary-setting and self-care, these skills foster resilience and long-term wellbeing.

With external support from a qualified professional, progress becomes not just a possibility but a reality. A supportive and objective perspective can provide insights that may be difficult to recognise alone, helping you break through barriers and move towards a more fulfilling and balanced life.
